Principal Engineer / Director of Engineering
About the Role
As Principal Engineer / Director of Engineering, you'll be the technical backbone driving architecture, scalability, and reliability across our BI and analytics platform. You'll work hands-on with backend and frontend teams while defining engineering best practices and mentoring senior engineers.
Responsibilities
- Architect scalable backend systems for analytics, data ingestion, and agentic processing using Spring Boot + PostgreSQL.
- Design performant query engines leveraging columnar data stores and ElasticSearch for text and metadata search.
- Collaborate with front-end (ReactJS) and AI teams to build seamless data-to-insight workflows.
- Optimize systems for latency, concurrency, and large dataset processing.
- Own system design, architecture reviews, and POCs for new data or visualization capabilities.
- Mentor engineers and ensure clean, maintainable code across the stack.
Required Skills
- Strong experience with Java (Spring Boot) and PostgreSQL performance optimization.
- Deep understanding of ElasticSearch internals, indexing, and distributed search.
- Strong understanding of columnar databases (DuckDB, ClickHouse, or similar).
- Front-end familiarity (ReactJS) — bonus for building embedded BI or dashboard UIs.
- Solid grasp of cloud deployment (AWS, GCP, Azure) and microservice architecture.
- Experience managing small to mid-size teams or technical leads.
Nice to Have
- Prior experience in analytics, BI, or GenAI data products.
- Hands-on experience with OLAP systems, caching, and query optimization techniques.
